Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented Extractions Supervisor to join our laboratory team in Flagstaff, AZ.This position oversees the Extractions area within Laboratory Operations: sample preparation for analysis of biological fluids for drugs of abuse. This individual leads the Extractions area in the laboratory as it relates to problem solving, enforcement of and compliance to policies and procedures, process optimization, communication and reporting, record keeping and other laboratory operations in a forensic environment.
The Extractions Supervisor reports to the Laboratory Manager.
Essential Functions:
•Ensures new employee training, ongoing training and cross-training is completed and in
compliance with all lab rules, regulations, standard work, standard operating procedures and
associated guidelines.
•Collaborate with operations leadership to solve work-related problems within or between
departments and sites, answering and resolving questions/issues daily
•Allocate work schedules, assignments, and analytical resources to meet production goals,
respond to fluctuating workloads, and improve quality and productivity of laboratory operations
•Schedules staff to assure optimum production and work coverage.
•Approves all timecards and PTO requests
•Maintains personnel accountability for attendance, productivity, training, and incidents
with analytical staff.
•Read and Maintain for the extractions department: SOPs, regulations, best practices, guidelines,
standards, policies, and procedures in coordination with the Scientific Director and Laboratory
Manager
•Participates in employee performance appraisals
•Ensure that all work is complete, accurate and meets our high-quality standards
•Ensures TAT on all extractions samples meets company expectations
•Determines proper levels of materials and makes sure inventory is maintained to meet
anticipated volumes.
•Ensure department inventory is monitored and maintained completing weekly counts and
orders. Alerts management to critical inventory item shortages.
•Performs or reviews audits of processes, work production, employee knowledge and
competency and documents results.
•Responsible to maintain all safeguards as it pertains to Protected health information (PHI)
•Prepares monthly packets (QA) and tracking reports.
•Analyzes personnel trends and makes recommendations for improvements/changes.
•Analyzes, recommends and implements worker and work area standardizations, methods, processes and procedures.
•Provides support for team leads, assuring that personnel levels are appropriate for continuous workflow while maintaining first pass-through quality.
•Adjusting employee schedules to fit volume needs and accommodate any carryover
•Prepares justification for increased or decreased manpower requirements.
•Assists with performing as the lab's change agent, implementing improvements and streamlined processes.
•Actively participates in all internal inspections. Technical resource and participant for external audits and inspections.
•Develops, leads and assures programs are meeting company standards.
In conjunction with laboratory management, assures that all processes and procedures meet with certification and compliance requirements.
•Actively involved in problem resolution, root cause analysis, and develops/implements/audits corrective action plans when needed.
•Develops and implements approved work processes including SOPs, standard work, TWI and other methodologies
•Will be responsible for callout coverage and assists on the line when needed
•Oversees all extractions training
•Monitors staff for productivity, pace and error rates to initiate re-training when needed.
•Maintaining equipment needs
•Participates in QC meetings and projects
•Locates any rush samples needed by Client Services or managers
•Participates and gathers confirmation/extractions daily numbers with Certifying Supervisor for daily ops calls
•Responsible for responding to emails regarding confirmation samples and testing questions
Additional Duties:
•Special projects as assigned
•All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
•Internal applicants with a minimum of 2 years' experience
•Previous supervisory or training experience, required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Must be detail oriented, with excellent organizational skills.
•Should be resourceful, flexible, adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
•Self-starter who can provide thought leadership and drive results in a dynamic and evolving
environment.
Physical Requirements:
•Light to moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.) -Heavier weights with assistance
•Sitting & standing for long periods of time
•Repetitive motions and/or prolonged computer use
•Working at a fast pace, subject to many interruptions and both physical and mental stress
