SALARY AND BENEFITS
The 2024-2025 salary range for the district's High School Assistant Principal is $88,964 - $94,094, based on a twelve-month contract, consistent with Arizona law. A comprehensive fringe benefits package is also included.

Summary of Function for Assistant Principal - Athletics Responsible for assisting the Principal with leadership, direction, supervision, operations, and accountability at the assigned high school. The assistant principal will supervise the student athletic program, which includes hiring and overseeing all coaching staff. The assistant principal has shared responsibilities with the principal and serves as the principal in their absence. The assistant principal may assume responsibilities from within the principal's job description as directed and is supervised by the principal.
Qualifications Qualifications include:
- Valid AZ Department of Education Administrative Certificate required
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university required
- Emphasis in supervision, educational administration and secondary curriculum preferred
- AZ Department of Education Certification required; Dual Certification preferred
- Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual endorsement is required within one year of hire
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Three (3) years successful experience in teaching, administration and supervision of staff preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Understanding of district and school student-achievement data and AZ State Standards.
- Knowledge of Restorative Practice and coordination of discipline.
- Ability to manage a variety of student behaviors.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.

Specific Duties
- Position would focus/oversee district and school level programs housed at the High School with an emphasis in:
- Athletic programs and oversight
- Teacher observations and evaluations
- Staff observations and evaluations
Illustrative Duties
- Responsible for all matters involving interscholastic athletics at the high school level.
- Represents their school at all meetings, contests, and other activities related to athletics.
- Coordinates the arrangement of schedules for athletic activities and coordinates schedules and contracts for staff and students needed to support associated activities.
- Coordinates transportation services for all athletic teams and other related groups directly concerned with the event inclusive of band.
- Supports the Principal in the coordination of the athletic program budget and ensures compliance with expenditures and purchase order requirements associated with the athletic program.
- Directs the duties for the staff assigned to support the athletic program including but not limited to administrative assistant support, coaches, game officials, student workers, and athletic trainers.
- Evaluates staff within the athletic and physical education departments.
- Coordinates the schedules for coverage and assists in the supervision of after-school activities.
- Works collaboratively with all staff to strengthen the instructional program.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct through a respectful guidance and development program, which focuses on prevention, communication with parents and high expectations of conduct.
- Establishes effective communication and maintains positive and respectful relationships with students, staff, parents and the community
- Participates in the recruitment, selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
- Assists with principal in providing the staff with professional development that will enhance their teaching skills to meet the needs of a culturally diverse student populations and a variety of learning styles.
- Participates in school disaster preparedness and safety information programs.
- Assists in developing and implementing a school improvement plan
- Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
- Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as the principal may assign.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Working conditions Indoor office environment and outdoor activities consistent with leading a school.
Physical requirements Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to perform aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, bending, holding and grasping objects. Verbal communication ability required.
Equipment, Aids, Tools and Materials Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors, white boards, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes that ever changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them.
Mental Tasks Communicates verbally and in writing. Reads. Analyze and evaluate data and reports. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manages own office and work environment. Promotes learning and ensures safety. Perform functions from written and oral instruction and from observing and listening to others.
