Human Resources Associate

Description:

The Human Resources Associate is responsible for managing the day-to-day onboarding operations and other HR functions within Flagstaff Shelter Services. This role involves ensuring agency-wide legal compliance, and maintenance of human resources records. The position requires a minimum of an Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; previous Human Resources experience could be substituted if in the social services or nonprofit sector. A strong commitment to and investment in the mission of Flagstaff Shelter Services is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day to day operation of multiple Human Resource functions including but not limited too: compliance, benefits and onboarding
  • Ensures that the new hire orientation process properly introduces new employees to the culture, mission, vision and expectations of our organization
  • Researches new programs, best practices, techniques and trends in the field of non-profit Human Resource Management and makes recommendations to the Executive Director
  • Acts as liaison between the company and outside legal and professional resources to ensure that all employment policies comply with current laws and regulations
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records, and representing the organization
  • Establishes and maintains filing systems, prepares records and files, and implements records management and retention practices for assigned Human Resource functions
  • Analyzes and evaluates the impact of proposed legislation and rule changes; assists in the establishment of institutional human resource policies, rules and procedures
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Assists in developing and presenting training related to one or more HR functions
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Human Resources or related Business Administration field
  • 1+ years experience in areas human resource information systems and record management, preferable in a non-profit or social services environment
  • Or any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to the above minimum requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, state and federal laws governing human resources
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to research, prepare, and present comprehensive reports
  • Ability to use good judgement and make difficult independent decision without direct supervision
  • Ability to collaborate across departments
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of organization, coordination and communication, with attention to detail and accuracy
Environment
  • Must be able to walk around the property.
  • Perform lifting (25 lbs. or more).
  • Work is performed in a shelter, office, and outdoor environment.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling may be required while performing job functions.
  • Shifts may require long periods of standing and walking.
  • There may be exposure to cleaning agents and allergens.
  • Employees may be subject to loud/frequent noise, disruptive behavior, or human crises involving substance abuse or mental health concerns.
