Job Title: Civil Traffic Hearing Officer - Williams Justice Court

The Coconino County Justice Court is accepting applications for the position of Civil Traffic Hearing Officer in the Williams Justice Court. This is an on-call, part-time position requiring appointment by the Justice of the Peace and approval from the Superior Court Presiding Judge.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting hearings and proceedings for civil traffic matters
  • Rendering decisions based on presented facts

Terms and Location of Appointment:

The selected candidate will be appointed as an at-will, exempt employee by the Justice of the Peace and must be approved by the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court for no more than 12 months. Reappointment may occur without competition for qualified Judicial Officers such as Pro Tems, Commissioners, and Hearing Officers.

Additional duties involve:

  • Performing specialized office work of moderate difficulty under supervision
  • Processing confidential documents related to misdemeanor, felony, and civil cases
  • Updating electronic records, researching and disbursing information
  • Recording court proceedings, processing payments, compiling reports
  • Scheduling hearings, preparing agendas, issuing warrants, and notifying attorneys
  • Correspondence, answering calls, assisting agencies, training staff, maintaining records, handling cash

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of clerical experience, or equivalent education, training, and experience demonstrating ability

Additional Requirements:

  • Passing a national fingerprint background check
  • Possession or ability to obtain certification as a Civil Traffic Hearing Officer by the Arizona Supreme Court

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of administrative experience in a legal office environment

The ideal candidate will have courtroom experience, reside within the Williams Justice Court precinct, and have relevant training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of justice court terms, office practices, legal procedures, and computer applications
  • Skill in office equipment operation, customer service, research, and problem-solving
  • Ability to establish effective relationships, work safely, follow instructions, communicate effectively, perform data entry, and maintain records
