Shelter Coordinator - Overnight Shift

**Part-time or Full-time, Overnight availability required**

This is for overnight (11PM-7AM) position.

Responsibilities

  • Practice informed decision making, honesty, transparency, and appropriate rapport building with staff, clients, and all community partners. Maintain a positive working relationship with coordinators, case managers, and on-site service providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Always maintain a high level of professionalism with everyone, including outside of work,
  • Provide quality crisis intervention and seek appropriate support to assist in difficult or emergency client situations.
  • Complete all required documentation throughout shift in an accurate, honest, and timely manner
  • Must be willing and able to access and communicate effectively with FPD, FFD, EMS, non-emergency PD, Terros, and any other emergency service in the community.
  • If assigned, complete all training required in HMIS data entry and receive an HMIS license.
  • Enter Data for check-in for both HMIS (if trained in HMIS) and In-house methods for tracking clients.
  • If assigned, enter client data into HMIS accurately, in accordance with the HMIS Code of Ethics and FSS Data Quality & Standards Initiative, as prescribed by the Director of Programs and Programs Data Manager.
  • Work closely with Lead Coordinators/Shelter Manager to help keep shelter operations effective.
  • Maintain client confidentiality. Ensure that individual rights are protected, all services are confidential, and no information is shared without consent. However, FSS does cooperate with all local law enforcement agencies when formal requests for information have been provided.
  • Compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Policies and Procedures manuals, and the Employee Handbook is mandatory.
  • Consult with the Lead Coordinator and/or Shelter Manager as needed and as appropriate.
  • Work on weekends, additional shifts and holidays when requested.
  • Ability to work with people in crises, including those with mental illnesses, addictions, and criminal backgrounds without judgement.
  • The coordinator position requires general knowledge of issues and challenges specific to homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager(s) and Lead Coordinator(s) when reasonable and able.
  • Work should be performed cost-effectively, remembering that FSS is a not-for-profit agency.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training courses, as required.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the homelessness population, medically vulnerable individuals, substance abuse, domestic violence, addictions, criminal background, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Flagstaff Shelter Service resources, and ability to navigate community resources for clients.
  • Knowledge and skill to provide and model de-escalation and conflict mediation for shelter clients and staff.
  • Ability to intervene and appropriately de-escalate crisis situations while providing oversight and supervision so that a safe and healthy environment is always maintained.
  • Knowledge of operating basic computer software programs and systems.
  • Knowledge of strong work ethics in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of basic application of confidentiality.
  • Skills in active listening and critical thinking.
  • Skills in sound judgement and decision making.
  • Skills with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to be dependable in attendance and job performance.
  • Ability to meet attendance, overtime (if necessary), and other reliable requirements of the job.
  • Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the organization.
  • High school education, GED, or the equivalent.
  • Experience working in a human services field required or equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred.
  • CPR/First Aide Certification preferred.
  • Food Handlers Certification will be provided and required..
  • Driver's License preferred.
  • Tact, discretion, and resourcefulness are always required.
  • Must be able to function both independently and in a team environment.
Environment
  • Must be able to walk around the property.
  • Perform lifting (25 lbs. or more)
  • Work is performed in a shelter, office, and outdoor environment.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling may be required while performing job functions.
  • Shifts may require long periods of standing and walking.
  • There may be exposure to cleaning agents and allergens.
  • Employees may be subject to loud/frequent noise, disruptive behavior, or human crises involving substance abuse or mental health concerns.
