Law Enforcement and Public Safety

  • Patrol assigned areas via vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot to prevent crime and enforce federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  • Respond to emergency calls, radio dispatches, and reports of crimes, accidents, or disturbances
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of criminal activity, accidents, and property damage
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; collect, preserve, and process evidence
  • Make arrests, detain suspects, and transport prisoners when necessary
  • Execute search and arrest warrants and serve court orders

Traffic Enforcement and Safety

  • Monitor and enforce traffic laws and regulations throughout the city
  • Conduct traffic stops, issue citations, and perform roadside sobriety testing
  • Investigate traffic accidents and manage accident scenes
  • Direct traffic during emergencies, special events, and hazardous conditions
  • Operate emergency vehicles at high speeds during pursuits and emergency responses

Community Engagement and Service

  • Provide excellent customer service to residents, visitors, and community members
  • Participate in community policing programs, neighborhood watch groups, and crime prevention initiatives
  • Address community concerns and resolve disputes through problem-solving approaches
  • Provide information, directions, and assistance to the public
  • Serve as a first responder providing emergency medical assistance including CPR and first aid

Documentation and Court Testimony

  • Prepare detailed, accurate written reports on investigations, arrests, and incidents
  • Maintain accurate records and case files
  • Appear in court to present evidence and provide testimony in criminal and civil proceedings
  • Complete required forms and documentation in accordance with department standards

Specialized Duties

  • May be assigned to specialized units such as K-9, SWAT, investigations, bicycle patrol, or other special assignments
  • Participate in various police programs including drug awareness, community outreach, and crime prevention education
  • Maintain proficiency with firearms, emergency equipment, and police technology
  • Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations

Minimum Qualifications

  • United States citizenship
  • High school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) certificate
  • Minimum age of 21 years at time of appointment
  • Successful completion of an Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) certified academy or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • Pass comprehensive background investigation meeting AZPOST standards
  • Pass medical examination, psychological evaluation, and polygraph examination
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history as defined by AZPOST standards
  • No dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Compliance with AZPOST drug use standards and substance abuse policies

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or related field
  • Previous law enforcement, military, or security experience
  • Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish preferred)
  • Additional specialized training or certifications in law enforcement techniques
  • Experience working with diverse populations and community groups
  • Knowledge of local geography and community resources
